What comes into your mind when you hear the word physics?

8

Physics

  • Science that deals with the structure of matter and the interactions between the fundamental constituents of the observable universe.

  • One of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, and its main goal is to understand how the universe behaves.

General Physics 1 Subject Description

  • Mechanics of particles, rigid bodies, and fluids; waves; and heat and thermodynamics using the methods and concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, graphical analysis, and basic calculus

11

Content Standard

  • The effect of instruments on measurements

  • Uncertainties and deviations in measurement

  • Sources and types of error

  • Vectors and vector addition

  • Position, time, distance, displacement, speed, average velocity, instantaneous velocity

  • Average acceleration, and instantaneous acceleration

    Uniformly accelerated linear motion

12

13

Content Standard

  • Free-fall motion

  • 1D Uniform Acceleration Problems

  • Relative motion

  •  Position, distance, displacement, speed, average velocity, instantaneous velocity, average acceleration, and instantaneous acceleration in 2- and 3- dimensions

  • Projectile Motion

  •  Circular Motion

14

Performance Standard

  • Solve, using experimental and theoretical approaches, multi- concept, rich-content problems involving measurement, vectors, motion in 1D and 2D, Newton’s Laws, Work, Energy, Center of Mass, momentum, impulse and collisions through a systematic dance plan given that dancing is a practical application of motion

15

Competencies

  • Differentiate accuracy from precision, and random from systematic errors

  • Identify the factors contributing to uncertainties and estimate errors using uncertainty analysis

  • Discuss the importance of good estimation and calculation to avoid damages to people/ properties

  • Differentiate vector and scalar quantities

  • Perform addition of vectors

  • Rewrite a vector in component form

  • Convert a verbal description of a physical situation involving uniform acceleration in one dimension into a mathematical description

16

Competencies

  • Solve for unknown quantities in equations involving one-dimensional uniformly accelerated motion , including free fall motion

Analyze practical applications of the concept motion in one dimension

Describe motion using the concept of relative velocities in 2D

Calculate range, time of flight, and maximum heights of projectiles
