Newton’s Laws of Motion

Sir Isaac Newton
•An English physicist and
mathematician in the 1600’s
•One of the most influential
scientists of all time
•Formulated the three basic
laws of motion (Newton's Laws
of Motion)

Sir Isaac Newton

2

Newton’s First Law

An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

3

Newton’s Second Law

Force equals mass times acceleration.

F = ma

Acceleration: a measurement of how quickly an object is changing speed.

4

Newton’s Third Law

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
