World War 1

World War 1 broke out in August 1914 and ended on 11 November 1918.

• It was a terrible war in which several nations were involved

• The war started in Europe when the industrialised nations of the world became jealous of each other's powers

Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers) fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States (the Allied Powers).

Each country wanted its empire to grow.

• Millions of soldiers and other people were killed or wounded

After a few years of peace, World War II broke out in September 1939.

It ended in 1945 after USA dropped atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The destruction of cities in World War 2 was much greater then World War 1.
