​To find the density of a material, measure both mass & volume

​To find density of a liquid- use graduated cylinder and a balance

1. ​find the mass of the graduated cylinder. Record the measurement

2. ​Pour the liquid into graduated cylinder. Write down volume of liquid.

3. ​Place the graduated cylinder with the liquid on the balance. Record the mass.

4. ​Find the mass of the liquid by subtracting the mass of the empty cylinder from the mass of the graduated cylinder with liquid.

​Density of a liquid

​density = mass     volume

​

​density = 10g 10mL

​

​density = 1 g/mL

​You can find density if you know its volume and its mass.

​Use a balance to find the mass

​(for a rectangular solid) You can find volume by

​multiplying: length x width x height

​
