Mass measures how much matter is in an object. We usually measure this by finding out what the object weighs.
Common measurements are grams (g), kilograms (kg) and tonnes (t). There are 1000 g in a kilogram and 1000 kg in a tonne.

Example: Dorji has a wooden box.The mass of this box when empty is 150kg.
a. How many litres of liquid could this box hold?
b. what would the mass be if it were full of water?
9
since 1 cm3 = 1 ml
2400,000cm3 = 2400,000 ml
2400000 ÷ 1000 = 2400 litres,
The container will hold 2400 L
b. Capacity
= l x w x h
=2m x 1.5m x 80 cm
=200cm x 150 cm x 80cm
= 2,400,ooocm3
a. Volume
Solution
volume, Capacity, and Mass
c. Mass
1 ml has a mass of 1 g
so 2400,000 ml = 2400,000 g
2400,000 ÷ 1000 = 2400 kg
Total mass= 2400 + 150 = 2550 kg
