Simple VS Compound Sentence

Simple sentence

• consists of one independent clause

• stands alone as a sentence

• connects subjects, verbs or objects

• doesn't connect two different sentences

Simple sentence examples:

• Peter and Rudi are siblings

• Peter likes reading manga and watching anime

• Rudi, unlike Peter, loves travelling and doing outdoor sports.

• She collects many things, like books, CDs, hand-made crafts.

Compound Sentence

• consists of two or more independent clauses.

• uses and, or, but, for to connect the clauses.

• requires a comma before coordinator.

Compound Sentence Examples:

• She loves cooking, but her sister hates it.

• Her father comes from West Java, and her mother comes from North Sulawesi.

• I'm thinking of selling my house, or I might rent it for business.
