Ocean Currents- Global Heat Distribution
OCs determine the climate in a region (i.e. cold currents keep coastal air temps cold, creating colder climate conditions and vice versa). **Difference surfaces absorb
The California Current is the cold West Coast current; the Gulf Stream Current is the warm East Coast current.
The Coriolis Effect explains the direction OCs rotate in.
Density is determined by salinity and & temperature of the current --> heat rises, cold sinks.

Ocean Currents- Global Heat Distribution
Surface currents are controlled by wind
Deep currents are controlled by nearness to/ away from Equator (the latitudes)
An OC's density is determined by salinity & temperature --> warmer, less saltier water will rise while the colder, saltier water sinks.
Different surfaces (i.e. soil, sea ice, ocean, sun) absorb sunlight differently (more/ less sun will be absorbed).
