How does your body know how to respond to something happening inside or outside your body?
3
I will be able to explain how sensory receptors respond to different types of stimuli and send messages to the brain so that one day I can understand how my body reacts and makes decisions to stay safe.
🧠 Demonstration of Learning (Student-Friendly)
I know I’m learning when I can:
Identify different sensory receptors (receptores sensoriales)
Explain what type of stimulus (estímulo) they respond to
Describe how signals travel through nerve cells (células nerviosas) to the brain (cerebro)
Use evidence from experiments to explain how my body reacts (behavior / comportamiento)
4
Electromagnetic stimuli refer to light. In this case, the eyes receive information through visual light.
Electromagnetic
Mechanical stimuli are those that involve physical interaction. This could be the pressure of pushing on something with the skin or the vibrations that occur on the eardrum.
Mechanical
Chemical stimuli are reactions that occur on the tongue or in the nose that the brain translates into taste or smell.

5
Stimuli
A stimulus is a change in an environment that causes a change in behavior.
Organisms maintain stability by responding to changes, or stimuli, in their environment.
A change is known as a response.
6
Internal stimuli
Changes that happen inside of an organism that require a response.
Hunger, thirst, sleepiness are all examples of internal stimuli
7
External stimuli
An external stimuli is one that comes from outside of an organism.
Running from danger and being drawn to a delicious taco are both responses to external stimuli.
