Guiding students to use AI responsibly involves teaching them to think critically, ethically, and transparently about their use of these tools.

1. Teach AI Literacy

   • Help students understand what AI is, how it works , and its limitations.

   • Show that AI does not "think", it generates content based on patterns.

2. Define Clear Usage Guidelines

   • Explain when and how it is appropriate to use tools like ChatGPT or Grammarly.

   • Make distinctions between using AI for support and misuse.

3. Promote Transparency

• Ask students to acknowledge AI assistance in their work. Example: “I used ChatGPT to help me brainstorm arguments.”

• Encourage reflective tasks like: “How did AI help you? What did you change?

  4. Focus on Process, Not Just Product

  • Include steps like planning, revision, and peer feedback to shift focus from final answers to learning development.

​5. Model Responsible Use

• Show examples of how YOU use AI in your teaching, and discuss both its usefulness and limitations.

6. Integrate AI in Critical Thinking Activities

• Let students analyze AI-generated texts: What’s accurate? What’s biased? What’s missing?

• Use it as a tool to compare different styles, improve vocabulary, or question assumptions.

7. Include Ethics Discussions

• Debate questions like: Is it fair to use AI in homework? Should AI be used for writing exams? How can we tell when it’s too much?
