Need to know - American foreign policy, immigration policies, energy policies, and environmental policies affect people both in the United States and in other countries. Key domestic (at home) and international (other countries) issues since World War II have helped to shape the US government’s relationship with its citizens and other nations.
Foreign Policy
20
Multiple Choice
Since 1980, the United States government has been shaped by...
Its actions with its citizens and other countries
by challenges seen in the Civil War
World War II
Factors such as space travel and space race
21
● Changes in terrorist activities
● Varied global conflicts
● Changing relationships with other nations
Foreign Policy
● Changing immigration policies
● More people try to immigrate to the United States than are allowed by law although many policies still included racial limitations
Immigration
22
Our nation has a history of being built by immigrants. People have made their way to the US for a better life. Nearly 20% of new business have been created by immigrants and these account for 80% of new jobs.
As immigration continues to grow, new schools and services will need to be provided to them. Of course, sometimes individuals come over to the US who have not been given permission to enter the country, and by law are not allowed to enter. This continues to be debated, especially as some policies continue to have racial limitations.
Immigration Policy
Since the 9/11 attacks, the US and other nations around the world have been on high alert. Globalism and interdependence has made fighting terror more difficult. The Homeland Security Act, setting up the Department of Homeland Security, was created to protect and changed the way we live and travel. See something, say something.
Additionally, our strongest enemies during the 20th Century, have become our biggest allies (Germany, Japan).
Our biggest challenges continue to be our energy issues.

● World health issues (global pandemics)
Other Concerns
25
Other issues continue to move in our world including global pandemics, energy issues, and ensuring the safety of all Americans.
As the nation continues to move into the next quarter of the 21st Century, technology and other solutions may help in solving these issues.
Other Issues
Teddy Roosevelt was the first President to support and protect our natural resources. Since this time, America has been working on conserving its drinking water as well as other natural resources from disease and disaster.
While the debate around global climate change continues, we all must understand that protecting our resources, which are limited, is important.
