What are adverbs?

Trạng từ là gì?

 

Adverbs are words that modify or describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They often provide more detail about how, when, where, or to what extent an action is performed.
Example: Minh eats slowly. The underlined word, slowly, is the adverb in the sentence. It describes how Minh eats.

Trạng từ là những từ dùng để bổ nghĩa hoặc mô tả động từ, tính từ hoặc các trạng từ khác. Chúng thường cung cấp thêm thông tin về cách thức, thời gian, địa điểm hoặc mức độ mà một hành động được thực hiện.
Ví dụ: Minh ăn chậm. Từ "chậm" là trạng từ trong câu, mô tả cách Minh ăn.

Categories of adverbs.

Adverbs of manner (describe how something happens): He runs quickly.

Adverbs of time (describe when something happens): She arrived yesterday.

Adverbs of place (describe where something happens): They looked everywhere.

Adverbs of degree (describe the extent to which something happens): I am very tired.

Adverbs of Frequency (describe how often something happens): She always wakes up early.

Trạng từ chỉ cách thức (Adverbs of manner) (diễn tả cách một hành động xảy ra): Anh ấy chạy nhanh.

Trạng từ chỉ thời gian (Adverbs of time) (diễn tả thời điểm một hành động xảy ra): Cô ấy đến hôm qua.

Trạng từ chỉ địa điểm (Adverbs of place) (diễn tả nơi một hành động xảy ra): Họ nhìn quanh mọi nơi.

Trạng từ chỉ mức độ (Adverbs of degree) (diễn tả mức độ một hành động xảy ra): Tôi rất mệt.
Trạng từ chỉ tần suất (Adverbs of frequency) (miêu tả mức độ thường xuyên của một hành động xảy ra) Ví dụ: Cô ấy luôn thức dậy sớm.

​Adverbs of frequency:
This group of adverbs describe how often an action occurs. They are commonly used with the present simple tense to indicate habitual actions. For example:

He always takes a bath before going to bed.
She sometimes goes to the gym after school.

Subject + Adverb of Frequency + Main Verb + (Object/Complement)

I always wake up early.

Ann sometimes reads before bed.

Kitty and Poppy often visit their grandparents on weekends.

Thai usually takes the bus to work.

Tracy and Loli rarely eat fast food.

Lily never forgets her umbrella.

Nhóm trạng từ này diễn tả mức độ thường xuyên của một hành động. Chúng thường được sử dụng với thì hiện tại đơn để chỉ các thói quen.

Ví dụ:

Anh ấy luôn tắm trước khi đi ngủ.

Cô ấy đôi khi đi tập gym sau giờ học.

​Adverbs of manner

Adverbs of manner describe how actions are performed. They add detail to verbs, explaining the way something happens.

Subject + Verb + Adverb of Manner + (Object/Complement)

Example:

Quickly (She finished quickly.)
Slowly (He walked slowly to the door.)

Carefully (She is writing carefully.)

Happily (She danced happily at the party.)

Loudly (He spoke loudly to get their attention.)

Carelessly (Kia is writing carelessly in his book)

Quietly (They spoke quietly in the library.)

  Usually placed after the verb or after the object

                  He drives carefully.

She speaks English fluently.
