Mystery Substances Mini-Investigation

ACTIVITY 1

30

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Stay in your group and work cooperatively.

  • Use the cups provided for each test. Make sure to wipe the spoon clean before re-using it.

  • When measuring powders, use 1 tablespoon each. When adding liquids, use 1 tablespoon of water or vinegar as instructed.

  • Provide 3 pieces of paper to get the powders. Handle the powders carefully — do not taste them. You may use your sense of sight and touch only.

31

INSTRUCTIONS

  • After each test (physical observation, solubility, reaction), record your observations on the worksheet.

  • Work quickly but carefully. You have only 20 minutes to finish all steps — observation, testing, and group reflection.

  • Form a group with 5 members.

  • Write your answer to your notebook.

  • Only 1 representative per group will get the materials from the teacher.

  • If you have questions, raise your hand — I will come to assist you.
