Who am I not to you?

IT Support Technician - Even though I am not suppose to install hardware, manage servers, fix wifi, perform tech repairs, I am working on it lol...

A "Tech Guru" - It is not knowing the "best" and "newest" apps out there, but how to implement and use these tools to support student learning objectives.

The person to teach a tech class - haha jokes on me...

A one-time PD trainer - We will have many PD's, sorry everyone. It is to support long-term growth in instructional and tech related practices.

Tool Pusher - In this presentation, I don't care how much tech you are using, but is it being utilized the way it should be?

Admin assistant - I am not IMPORTANT!

Question image

Before we start our PD describe some of your favorite ways that you integrate technology in the classroom? This can include favorite tech tools, methods, etc.

5

Draw

Draw an example of your favorite tech tool. After share with your group why you drew what you did? Last, I will choose some to describe their drawing and why they chose whatever tool they chose as their favorite tech tool used in the classroom.

6

Poll

Question image

Last question before we start, what are you planning on getting out of this pd with technology integration?

I am planning on hopefully getting better technology resources to use in the classroom

I am planning on not just implementing technology in the classroom but how to more effectively use tech as a teacher for lessons

I am here because my boss said I have to be and I am happy to have a job and Jesus in my life

I am not tech savvy so I will take anything I can get…

7

What is technology integration in the classroom?

media

Are we using tech just to replace paper or to transform learning? Think about that for a minute and we will come back to this question…

media

Technology integration is the thoughtful and purposeful use of technology to enhance and support the learning process. It's about using digital tools and resources to improve how students learn, not just using technology for its own sake. This involves seamlessly blending technology into existing curricula and teaching practices to deepen understanding, foster engagement, and prepare students for a technology-driven world

8

Why are we Having a PD on Integrating Technology in the Classroom?

My question as asked before “Are you implementing technology in the classroom just to replace paper” statement? How can we not just implement technology in the classroom but how can we use this tech to enhance and add rigor to our lessons?

1. How can we develop a 21st century classroom that is made up of a “blended learning” environment?

2. How do we implement technology in the classroom in the forms of collaboration amongst peers?

3. How do we implement real world application along with integrating technology in the classroom?

4. How can we not just implement technology, but add more “rigor” to the content using tech.

9

What is the most “Up to Date” Technique or Model for Integrating Technology in the Classroom?

TPACK Model - Focuses on three basis: technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and content knowledge (We will talk about all these soon yay!)😀 This is the basis for integrating technology in the classroom. It is a framework that helps educators understand the different types of knowledge required to integrate tech effectively into teaching

SAMR Model - a framework used in education to guide the integration of technology into teaching and learning. It stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. The model helps educators think about how technology can be used to enhance, rather than just replace, traditional teaching methods ultimately leading to more meaningful and transformative learning experiences.

Blended Learning - Combines the TPACK Model and SAMR Model to add both technology and face to face learning with enhanced learning capabilities in tech integration.

Question image

In your own words, what is the SAMR Model used for in technology integration?

12

What is the TPACK model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

TPACK Model - Focuses on three basis: technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and content knowledge (We will talk about all these soon yay!)😀 This is the basis for integrating technology in the classroom.

*This is the beginning steps to integrating technology in the classroom. What do we focus on first?

media

13

What is the TPACK model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

TPACK helps teachers conceptually understand the why and how of technology integration. It's emphasis is on the following:

1. Content Knowledge (CK) - What you teach (e.g. math, science, etc)

2. Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) - How you teach (e.g. problem and project based, inquiry based)

3. Technological Knowledge (TK) - The tools you use (e.g. nearpod, quizizz, stop-motion padlet, google classroom, blooket, IDK!!!!!)

14

What is the TPACK model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

USE TPACK WHERE...

Technology is used meaningfully in service of both content and pedagogy

Question to Ask Yourself: "Am I using the right tech for the right reasons in the right way?

15

What is the TPACK model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

Example of using TPACK:
Example: A teacher using TPACK in a lesson on gravitational energy might:

  • Start with a discussion of real-world examples of gravitational energy and how it has potential energy (CK).

  • Use virtual simulations to discuss how energy is transferred and not destroyed from potential to kinetic energy (TK, PK and CK).

  • Facilitate group virtual discussions using padlet, google classroom, etc. about how students are interpreting the visual representations (PK) and add any misconceptions that arise (PK and TPK).

  • Encourage students to use the graphs and other keys to solve problems and test their understanding (TPK).

  • Provide opportunities for students to share their findings and reasoning (PK and TPACK).

16

What is the TPACK model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

Example of using TPACK:
Example: A teacher using TPACK in a lesson on weather might:

  • Start with a discussion of real-world examples pertaining to weather systems, more specifically, how weather systems form, move, strengthen, and dissipate (CK).

  • Use virtual simulations to discuss how weather is predicted and tracked using NWS, Pivotal Weather, CIMSS (TK, PK and CK).

  • Facilitate group virtual discussions about how students are interpreting the visual representations (PK) using google docs "live" and add any misconceptions that arise (PK and TPK).

  • Encourage students to use the graphs and other keys to solve problems and test their understanding (TPK).

  • Provide opportunities for students to share their findings and reasoning (PK and TPACK).

Question image

Now, it's your turn! 😁😁😁😁

Describe a previous lesson where you have used TPACK and didn't even know it! This does not have to be as extensive as I have done, but I would like for you to describe how you used TK PK CK and all together TPACK. In other words, describe how you used your content knowledge (content), Pedagogical Knowledge (How?) and Tech Knowledge (Enhanced version of learning than the traditional). Discuss this as a group for you extroverts or alone for you introverts out there...

18

What is the SAMR model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

SAMR Model - Stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. This is a model developed to help educators integrate technology into teaching in meaningful ways, along with "enhancing" learning which you would not be able to do in a traditional technology classroom.

*This model provides a framework to reflect on how tech is used in the classroom, progressing from basic substitution to transformative redefined learning.

media

19

What is the SAMR model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

Example of using the SAMR in Levels:

Substitution: Tech acts as a direct substitute, with no functional change. Example: Students typing out an essay in word instead of hand-writing it.

Augmentation: Tech acts as a direct substitute with functional improvements. Example: Students use spell check, word count, page count, and thesaurus in google docs.

Modification: Tech allows for significant task redesign. Example: Students collaborate on a shared google doc and give peer feedback via comments.

Redefinition: Tech allows for the creation of new tasks previously inconceivable. Example: Students create multimedia essays, podcasts, publish website, and gather feedback globally.

20

What is the SAMR model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

Example of using the SAMR in Levels: Geography

Substitution: Tech acts as a direct substitute, with no functional change. Example: Students uses digital maps to create a map of Egypt

Augmentation: Tech acts as a direct substitute with functional improvements. Example: Adding critical elements to the map such as images, key, etc.

Modification: Tech allows for significant task redesign. Example: Add specific archeological sites that you are interested in along with areas that are important agriculturally. After correlate between the two

Redefinition: Tech allows for the creation of new tasks previously inconceivable. Example: Adding other users to the Egypt map to focus on other important aspects of Egypt including commerce, transportation, etc. And how this affects the community and leadership of the Country.

21

What is the SAMR model and how do we impliment this method in the classroom?

Example of Tech YOU can use:

Google Docs: Substitution - Students type essays instead of writing them by hand

Kahoot, Blooket, Quizizz: Augmentation - Game-based learning quizizz with instant feedback

Padlet or Jamboard: Modification - Collaborative idea boards with images, links, video's etc.

Minecraft EDU, Homestyler, Phet simulations: Redefinition - Students design homes, historical landmarks in a virtual world

Flipgrid, Vectr: Redefinition - students create logos, video's for global feedback

Question image

Discuss with a partner on what level you may think you are currently in using the SAMR model? Think about previous lessons. After, try and think how you can move up 1 level within the SAMR model and discuss this with your peers. After, post your answer below of your example lesson.

24

I know we have digital tech tools, but what do we have we can use "hands on"?

Here is a list of just some hands-on tech tools (toys) we have for enhanced learning in the classroom (note, we will have a sign out sheet for tech coming soon...)

Lego Robotics: Spike Prime

Ozobots

3D Printer

Muse Laser Engraver

Sphero Mini's and RVR+

Dash Bots

Green Screen

Temperature Probes

Force Probes

Heart Monitors/Rate

25

I know we have digital tech tools, but what do we have we can use "hands on"?

How can I implement hands-on tech with the SAMR Model? Sphero Mini

ELA Objective: Analyze a Character's Journey and motivation in a story of your choice (example: charlotte's web, hatchet, because of winn-dixie, The BIBLE!)

S - Substitution: Students Collect character traits and story events in a digital notebook or google doc or padlet or... instead of paper
*
Sphero is not implemented yet...

A - Augmentation: Students use a character map app (popplet, google slides) to track a characters development
Sphero Usage: Program or drive through a course or maze (pathway) representing plot points (forward for progress, backward for setbacks). Example: Brian's emotional growth in "Hatchet" - sphero changes color on path to show mood shifts or "change"

M - Modification: Students add voiceover to the sphero mini, change color when stopped at new plot twists, stop at these events, etc.

Sphero Usage: students explore and use sphero edu app to code movement, lighting, and sounds
Example: In Charlotte's web, students create a maze where sphero visits the barn, fair, and web locations. At each stop, it plays a sound or displays a phrase describing character development.

R - Redefinition: Students retell the story from another character's point of view using sphero as the character, coding movements, sounds, voiceovers, and emotions (via color changes)
Example: Reimagining Winn Dixie from the dogs perspective. Students act out scenes with voiceovers, emotions, and background music by recording sphero using stop motion.

And last activity: Create your own lesson using an ozobot or sphero mini using your content.

In this activity I would like you to use both the TPACK and SAMR models discussed today, and create a lesson in your content using the sphero kit I gave you. Note, you may not be able to code it to do things if you are lost, but if you want to learn you can. Remember, just try and implement a lesson you have using the hands on tech.

27
