Multiple Choice

Which of the following statements best describes the two main pathways for pupils studying science at GCSE level according to the national curriculum?

1

All pupils study only one science subject.

2

Pupils can choose between a combined science course (2 GCSEs) or separate sciences (3 GCSEs).

3

Pupils are not required to study science at GCSE level.

4

Only private schools offer separate sciences.

26

media

27

Moving into key stage 4 pupils are put onto one of two pathways.

All pupils must legally study all 3 sciences to GCSE, most will undertake either a combined course resulting in 2 GCSE grades or separate science GCSE resulting in 3 GCSE grades.

The majority of schools, in my experience, select for separate sciences due to time constraints.  This is not Ofsted's preferred option, instead they would like all students to be offered the separates pathway.
