The goal of hunter education is to produce hunters that are:

  • Safe- Acting in a way that causes no harm to yourself or others

  • Knowledgeable- Understanding information gained through experience

  • Responsible-Being accountable for one's actions

  • Involved- Being an active participant

  • Federal Aid and Wildlife Restoration Act is an excise tax approved by Congress in 1937 (also known as Pittman-Robertson Act after the sponsoring senators)

    • Provides funding for conservation efforts.

  • 1970 the act was amended to include funds for hunter recruitment and retention eductaion programs

Pittman-Robertson Act:

​An excise tax is a tax on specific goods, services or activities

State Funding

  • 1/8 of 1% of Missouri's sales tax (approximately $25 per person in 2024) dedicated exclusively to conservation efforts

  • Fees from hunting permits

  • conservation sales, rentals and other miscellaneous funds

  • fines from violation go to a school in the county which the violation occured, not to MDC

  • National and state hunter organizations and other industries, buisnesses, and clubs help fund or provide facilities and equipment for hunter education courses
