RACE to WIN

Poe uses contrast to develop the mood by using different words with different meanings. Like on page 3 paragraph 3 it says "Be sure they were grotesque" and "There was much of the beautiful" this shows two different meanings like grotesque means repulsively ugly while beautiful means delighting he uses these two different words to develop the mood in the story.

Poe uses contrast to develop the mood by making the people feel afraid and confused . One example of this is when the people first hear the clock's bell. At first, they all stopped and listened, but when the sound stopped the people and the musicians laughed at each other and said that the next time the clock rang, it would not cause any similar emotion and when the bell rang again, it caused the same reaction. This shows that, even though the people knew the bell would ring again, they still had the same mysterious and unsettling reaction as before.

Poe used contrast to develop the mood when the bell started to toll, the people started to laugh nervously. This takes place in paragraph 5, he wrote "But when the echos fully ceased, a light laughter at once pervaded the assembly; the musician looked at each other and smiled." This contrast between laughter and silence sends a sense of unease, contributing to the eerie setting.

I think Poe uses contrast to develop mood in the story because it makes the story feel more figurative. One example is the ebony clock, he says in paragraph 5 " and then were the same disconcert and tremulousness and meditation as before". This piece of evidence shows contrast because its saying how the ebony clock changes time and the sound of the clock determines the time and mood.

Poe uses contrast to develop the mood by talking about how outside of the castle their are tons of people dying from the red death and in the castle they are ignoring the people dying and having masquerades and parties instead. In first paragraph it talks about the red death and is face melting attribute, then later it talks about Prince Prospero's castle with all rich and powerful people letting prince Prospero try to make them forget and ignore the outside world. My evidence shows that the contrast from the outside of the castle peoples faces melting to inside the castle everybody just happy and partying while the outside suffers makes the mood sad.
