What Is a Prefix?

​A prefix is a group of letters added to the beginning of a word.
It changes the meaning of the word!

Example:

• happy → unhappy (means not happy)

Meet “dis-”

​The prefix "dis-" means not or opposite of.

Examples:

• disagree → not agree

• disconnect → not connected

• dishonest → not honest

Meet “pre-”

The prefix pre- means before.

Examples:

• preview → to see before

• preheat → to heat before cooking

• preschool → school before kindergarten

Meet “re-”

​The prefix re- means again or back.

Examples:

• redo → do again

• rewrite → write again

• replay → play again
