Multiple Choice
TRUE OR FALSE
Earth orbits in the habitable zone around the Sun
TRUE
FALSE

STONY METEORITE - A meteorite with a mass ratio of rock to metal similar to the mass ratio of Earth’s mantle to Earth’s core, thus reflecting the primordial composition of the Solar System and representing a window into its past. Most meteorites are stony meteorites.
METEORITE - A meteor that does not completely vaporize and that strikes Earth’s surface.
12
Open Ended
Explain the characteristics of the Earth that support life in comparison with the other planets of the solar system (in terms of the distance from the sun)
13
Open Ended
Explain the characteristics of the Earth that support life in comparison with the other planets of the solar system (in terms of stable liqud water)
14
Open Ended
Explain the characteristics of the Earth that support life in comparison with the other planets of the solar system (in terms of the atmosphere)
15
Multiple Choice
Which of the following does not reach the Earth's surface?
A meteorite
A stony meteorite
A meteor
Chondrules
16
METEOR - A falling meteoroid that enters Earth’s atmosphere and glows as it vaporizes; colloquially called a shooting star.
CHONDRULES - A small grain about 1 millimeter in diameter embedded in a meteorite, often containing amino acids or other organic molecules.
17
A meteor that does not completely vaporize and that strikes Earth’s surface.
METEORITE
Most meteorites are stony meteorites.
STONY METEORITE
A falling meteoroid that enters Earth’s atmosphere and glows as it vaporizes; colloquially called a shooting star.
METEOR
18
Therefore, A meteor is the only one that refers to the object. It vaporizes before it hits the surface while it is burning up in the atmosphere, and by definition, it does not reach the Earth's surface in that state. What hits the surface is called a meteorite.

Multiple Choice
All jovian planets (gas giants) have rings except which of the following?
20
Multiple Choice
All jovian planets (gas giants) have rings except which of the following?
Jupiter
Uranus
Neptune
All of the jovian planets have rings
21
All of the Jovian planets have at least one or more rings.
GAS GIANTS (JOVIAN PLANETS)
22
Jupiter has four main rings: the halo ring, the main ring, the Amalthea gossamer ring, and the Thebe gossamer ring
JUPITER
Saturn has seven main rings, which are grouped into four main and three fainter groups. They are named A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
SATURN
Uranus has 13 known rings. These rings are narrow and faint, made of dark, dusty particles, and are arranged in two sets: eleven inner rings and two outer rings.
URANUS
23
Jupiter has four main rings: the halo ring, the main ring, the Amalthea gossamer ring, and the Thebe gossamer ring
JUPITER
Saturn has seven main rings, which are grouped into four main and three fainter groups. They are named A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
SATURN
Neptune has five main rings and several partial rings known as arcs. The main rings are named Galle, Le Verrier, Lassell, Arago, and Adams
NEPTUNE
24
Multiple Choice
An astronomer is interested in determining the climate of a newly discovered planet. Which of the following will have the most influence on the planet's overall climate over short periods of time
The amount of water in the planet
The planet's distance from the Sun
The planet's atmosphere
The planet's orbit around the Sun
25
EXPLANATION: A planet's atmosphere directly affects the climate of a particular planet while additional factors such as heat and relative distance to the Sun has relative impacts.
