Assignment: Read chapters 18-19 of Detectives in Togas

Assigned Reading:

Detectives in Togas The boys were not permitted into the Censor's office, but they tricked the guard into giving them the name of the official who took the news late at night, as well as the location of his home. The official, named Megabates, lived in a tenement building very different from the grand homes of the boys. When Megabates found out that the sons of Senator Vicinius and the tribune Domitius were in his presence, he revealed to them that the courier was sent by Ex-consul Tellus. The boys reported back to Xantippus, who helped them try to piece together how Tellus may have been involved. He concluded that Tellus himself had not commited the crime, but rather someone who attended his party the night the desecration occurred. To help solve this piece of the puzzle, Antonius was sent to Tellus's home with a letter from Xantippus. The plan was to have Antonius memorize the names of all the guests who attended his most recent party by studying the names written in red paint on the walls of his home while he waited for an answer to the letter.
