What Are Prepositions?
- A preposition is a word that shows a relationship between words.
- It kicks off a prepositional phrase in a sentence.
- These phrases often tell us 'where,' 'when,' or 'how.'
- Think of them as a GPS for your sentences!

Let's Learn with an Example
Let's look at the sentence: 'The brave knight rode his horse across the rickety bridge.'
• First, look for a word that shows a relationship like location.
• The word 'across' connects the knight's riding to the bridge.
• It begins the prepositional phrase 'across the rickety bridge.'
• This phrase tells us where the knight rode his horse.
• The noun 'bridge' is called the object of the preposition.
• We found it! The preposition 'across' helps describe the action.
