Today's Lesson
- We will start with an introduction to articles.
- Learn about definite and indefinite articles.
- We will use many examples to understand the topic.
- We will practice using articles together as a group.
- You will get a chance to practice on your own.
3
Learning Objectives
- Identify the three articles—a, an, and the.
- Learn when to use definite (the) and indefinite (a, an) articles.
- Apply this knowledge by choosing the correct article in sentences.
4
What Are Articles?
• The words a, an, and the are special words called articles.
• They act like signposts for nouns, telling us more about them.
• Articles tell you if a noun is general or specific.
• For example, 'a star' is general, but 'the sun' is specific.
• Using them correctly makes your writing clear and easy to read.
5
Let's Learn with an Example
• The story uses ‘a pet’ to refer to any pet in general.
• 'The shelter' and 'the animals' are used for specific places and groups.
• 'A dog' and 'a parrot' introduce general animals for the first time.
• 'An orange cat' is used because orange begins with a vowel sound.
• Later, ‘the orange cat’ refers to the specific cat already mentioned.
• Use ‘the’ for specific nouns; use ‘a’ or ‘an’ for general nouns.
