What Is a Subject Pronoun?

A subject pronoun takes the place of a person or thing doing the action in a sentence.


Examples:

  • Maria runs fast. → She runs fast.

  • The dogs bark loudly. → They bark loudly.

Why We Use Pronouns

We use pronouns to make our sentences shorter and sound smoother.


Without pronouns:

Emma likes music. Emma plays the piano. Emma sings songs.


With pronouns:
