First Aid

After a bee sting:

• Use tobacco to take out the sting

• Apply direct pressure to the sting

• Clean the site with alcohol

• Take the stinger out with a credit card

When coming in contact with poison ivy:

• Wipe the area with alcohol

• Wash with soap and warm water

• scratch

• Run under cold water

If someone has slurred speech and a drooping smile, they may be having:

• Seizure

• Stroke

• Heart attack

• Internal bleeding

If bitten by an animal, do all EXCEPT:

• Rinse with hydrogen peroxide

• Wash with soap and warm water

• Apply pressure if bleeding

• Hospital if deep, large, or continued bleeding

When treating a nosebleed, do all EXCEPT:

• Apply ice

• Lean forward

• Apply pressure

• Lean backward

Treat heat exhaustion by doing all EXCEPT:

• Cool slowly

• Remove from source of heat

• Give water to drink if conscience

• Remove extra clothing

When someone faints:

• Have them sit with their head between their knees

• Elevate the feet 12 inches

• Give cold water to drink

• Have them drink a small snack

When treating hypothermia:

• Warm as quickly as possible

• Put in a warm tub of water

• Warm with indirect heat

• Warm hands and feet

For a snakebite:

• Apply a tourniquet

• Keep the bite below the level of the heart

• Apply ice

• Suck out the poison

First aid for seizure includes all EXCEPT:

• Restrain the person as they shake

• Move away sharp or blunt objects from their head

• Put padding underneath the head

• Roll into recovery position if foaming or bleeding from mouth
