In conversation with her co-teaching partner, Hailey Hall concluded they did not get the learning results they expected from their students. Hailey suggested that the next time they teach this concept, they use a different strategy for teaching figurative language, specifically metaphor. They agreed to have students analyze a well-known poem or lyrics from a contemporary song for both metaphor and simile. They were confident that tapping into students’ interests would likely result in increased mental engagement and success for the lesson. Hayley talked about individual students and a plan for grouping and assessment.
