SITUATION QUIZ

Sarah and Mike have just bought a new house. They are walking around the garden, discussing what to plant. Sarah says:

You have been staying at a hotel. You return home but your glasses are missing. You telephone the hotel to ask:

You wake up one morning and see that it is snowing. You adore playing in the snow, so you say to your brother:

You are travelling in the non-smoking section of a train. Someone gets on, sits down and lights up a cigarette.You say:

• I'll move to another compartment shall I?

• I'm afraid that smoking is not permitted here

• You couldn't give me a cigarette could you?

• I used to smoke but I gave up three months ago.

You are going away for a month and you ask your friend to water your plants. She agrees, so you explaining to her:

• Do you mind taking care of my plants for a week?

• Here are some keys for my flat so you can let yourself in.

• They'll probably die after a week, so just throw them away.

• Don't overwater them, but don't let the soil become dry.

You went to a party last night, but you became ill and went home early. You are phoning your friend to apologize

• Thank you so much for the lovely party. I'm sorry we were late.

• Are you feeling better? You looked dreadful when you left.
