The Fox and the Crow

One day a crow found a piece of cheese. She Scooped it up and flew to a nearby tree. Just then a fox passed by. He noticed the crow perched on a branch. When he saw the cheesze in her beak, his mouth watered. He wanted the cheese badly, but he could not climb the tree. He knew he would have to trick the crow into giving it up.

The fox said pleasantly, "Hello, Crow! How are you this morning?: The crow did not answer but looked silently at the fox instead.

"How lovely you are, Crow!" continued the fox. "Your feathers shine so brightly in the sun! May I hear you sing? I know as fine a bird as you must have a beautiful voice!"

No one had said such wonderful things to the crow before. The thoughtless bird wanted to show the fox how well she could sing. She lifted her head proudly and flapped her feathers. Then she opened her mouth and said, "Caw!"

The cheese fell out of her beak and was snatched up promptly by the fox. With one gulp, the cheese was gone.

"Next time, don't be fooled by flattery," said the fox, and he walked away.
