Voltage in an automotive circuit:

• will increase as resistance increases.

A voltmeter is connected at a connector located between the power window motor (ground side)and ground. The red lead is placed at the front of the connector and the black lead on the negative post on the battery. When the power window switch is closed, the meter reads 13 volts. A possible problem is a:

• faulty power window motor.

• break, or open, in the ground connection.

• faulty switch.

• disconnected battery.

A normal working circuit with one load will read full source voltage:

• anywhere in the circuit with the switch ON.

• across the switch with the switch ON.

• anywhere in the circuit with the switch OFF.

• up until the load, and 0 volts after the load.
