Role of Professional Engineer

The responsibilities of consulting engineer to client when working in design stage are to:

• Make sure the engineering work meet the functions specified in the client’s/owner’s design brief

• Prepare a design for the contractor to work with/ construct safely in accordance with the condition of contract

• Make sure the engineering work is economically built/constructed and with more maintenance

• Make sure the engineering work should achieve the functional, aesthetic, and building standards as required by local authorities

The followings are the responsibilities of P.Eng working as a Consultant Engineer, EXCEPT

• Design and supervision of the engineering work that are safe both during construction and when in use

• To ensure that the design execution is safe – design checks for safety during construction

• To play critical role in the project implementation and site safety

• Upon completion, with engineering work is economically built/constructed and with minimal maintenance and meets the functions specified in the client’s/owner’s design brief

The consulting engineer responsibility is to ensure that the work poses no danger to the public (a)   both during construction and maintenance.

Responsibilities of the consulting engineer to the Client/ Owner and the Contractor during construction stage is:

• Ensuring the construction work is executed by the contractor according to the safety requirements of the regulatory bodies.

• Together with the architect has to make certain that the safety plan submitted by the main contractor to DOSH (Dept. Of Safety and Health) is not necessarily approved before commencement of physical work on site.

• Ensuring that safety measures are executed by the main consultant in a time manner in accordance with the approved safety throughout the contractual period.

• To propose the construction contract
