Ultimate Frisbee Rules

The Field:

• A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with end zones 25 yards deep.

• A regulation field is 740 yards by 440 yards, with end zones 125 yards deep.

• A regulation field is 40 yards by 40 yards, with end zones 75 yards deep.

• A regulation field is 170 yards by 140 yards, with end zones 125 yards deep.

Players:

• 6-7 players on a team in the real world and in PE class.

• 12-15 players on a team in the real world and in PE class.

• 11 players on a team in the real world and in PE class.

• 15 players on a team in the real world and in PE class.

After the ‘Pull:’ If “A” throws it to “B”:

• If “B” catches it, they may start immediately at that point.

• If “B” attempts to catch the disc, but drops it, “A” takes it at that point.

• If “B” lets it hit the field, they take it at that spot.

• If “A” pulls it out of bounds, “B” can bring it to the line where it went out of bounds, or 10 yards in from the end zone. This is their choice.

Movement of the disc:

• the disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate.

• Players may not run with the disc.

• The person with the disc (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the disc.

• players kick the disc into the goal.

Change of Possession:

• When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.

• when you grab the disc out of a player's hand.

• When players have a successful pass.

• When a player from the same team catches the frisbee.

Non-Contact:

• No physical contact is allowed between players.

• Physical contact is allowed between players.

• Picks and screens are allowed.

• A foul occurs when you DON'T make contact.

Fouls:

• When a player initiates contact with another player, a foul occurs.

• When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained.

• If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.

• There are not any fouls ever called in ultimate frisbee.

Self-Officiating:

• Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

• Players are not responsible for calling their own fouls.

• Player's DO NOT solve their own disputes.

• There are NO fouls in ultimate frisbee.

Spirit of the Game:

• Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

• Ultimate stresses poor sportsmanship and foul play. Competitive play is encouraged, at the expense and respect between players.

• Tackle everyone you can.

• Poor sportsmanship and unfair play are encouraged.

How to Play Offense:

• After a goal is scored, both teams switch ends and now work to score a goal across the other goal line.

• Must attempt to throw and catch the disc. If the disc is not caught by the offense, the defense takes possession where it first lands.

• A player may toss the disc in any manner, but it may not be handed from one player to another.

• Players may not take steps once they are in possession. However, momentum must be taken into consideration when a player catches the disc and takes a step or two while trying to stop.

• A player with possession may use one foot as a pivot.
