Growing Up

Endangered

Pandas mainly eat bamboo. They need to eat about 40 pounds of food each day. However, people have been cutting down the bamboo forests. As a result, pandas have nowhere to live and not enough to eat. This has caused pandas to become an endangered animal.

Panda Bears and Grizzly Bears

Panda bears and grizzly bears are both very large mammals. Pandas eat mostly bamboo leaves and stems. In contrast, grizzly bears love to eat meat. Another difference between panda bears and grizzly bears is that while grizzly bears hibernate during the winter, pandas do not. Unfortunately, panda and grizzly bears are endangered, because they are losing their habitat.

How do pandas survive in their cold environment?

Pandas have very thick fur. This fur is oily and waterproof. This special fur keeps the panda warm, even when it is damp and freezing.
