HCSC The Road to Winter Chapters 6-7

It’s barely light when I wake up. Rose had been tossing and turning all night, at one stage calling out a name I didn’t recognise.

• Rose couldn't sleep because of Finn's snoring.

• Rose was sleep walking all night.

• Rose had a restless night because she had things on her mind.

• Rose couldn't sleep because of a stomach-ache.

Now everything is in its place and the earth is back on its axis. There’s no virus, no one trying to kill me, no orphan kid battling to stay alive. There’s just this wave and me.

• Finn is feeling relaxed while surfing in the morning.

• Surfing in the morning is adding to Finn's anxiety.

• Finn is thinking of giving up surfing.

• Finn is teaching Rose how to swim.

I’m so relaxed I forget to birdcall to let Rose know I’m back. When I step out of the shed she’s standing a few metres away with an arrow pulled tight in the bow, pointed at my chest.

• Rose almost shoots Finn because she wasn't sure it was him and was scared

• Rose is hunting rabbits.

• Rose wants to kill Finn to stop him snoring.

• Rose is proud of her archery skills and is showing off in front of Finn.

I can hardly believe what I’m seeing.  She’s pregnant.

• Rose already told Finn she was expecting a child.

• Finn is wrong. Rose isn't really expecting a baby.

• Finn already thought Rose was having a baby, but was too shy to ask.

• Finn is completely surprised when he sees that Rose is expecting a child.

Everything feels like it’s falling in on me—Rose has come, the Wilders have seen me, and now she’s sick. And pregnant. I’m in so much danger but I can’t stand the thought of being on my own again.

• Finn is planning to send Rose away because he doesn't want to deal with a baby.

• Finn is frightened, but still wants to help Rose.

• Finn wants the child to be called Finbar if it is a boy.

• Finn is wondering who the father is.

I try to keep her focused. ‘We have to find Kas. She’s relying on us. But first you’ve got to get better.’

• Finn tries to help Rose get better by giving her a goal to work towards.

• Finn doesn't know what to say.

• Finn doesn't care if Rose gets well or not.

• Finn advises Rose to just give up.

'I have to make sure Rose doesn’t get any worse. And the weirdest thing is I feel like I have to make it up to her for all the bad things other people have done to her.'

Finn helps Rose out of ..........

Finn goes to Ray's place

• to tell him to stay away.

• to steal his food.

• to see if he can help with the pregnancy.

• to see if he will help fight the Wilders off.

'It’s a trap—and it’s meant for me.'

• The Wilders.

• Rose.

• Stan and Beth.

It takes about half an hour to get up to the fence and this time I approach cautiously, staying low and crawling to take advantage of the bracken fern for cover.

• Finn is always getting lost.

• Finn is skilled at using the physical environment to his advantage.

• Finn runs everywhere.

• Finn is making a map of the area for Rose's use.
