The clothes you wear are very important to your safety. Loose clothes, shirts, blouses that aren't tucked in, sleeves buttoned or rolled are dangerous because they:

• Could get dirty

• Could get caught in a machine

• Look sloppy

• Could get torn

The right shoes are important too. They can protect you from falling parts and slipping. While in the shop you should wear:

• Boots with rubber soles

• Tennis shoes

• Sandals

• Crocks

Take off any rings or jewelry before you begin in the shop. They could be dangerous to wear because:

• Get lost

• Be damaged

• Cause shock, cuts or bruises

• Get dirty

To avoid serious injury, long hair must be kept in a cap or hair tie to prevent:

• Dirty

• Oily

• Near electricity

• Caught in something

Some of the equipment may look simple to use, but it may not be so easy to figure out. Don't use any equipment until:

• You have read the instructions

• You have tested it

• The instructor shows you how to use it

• You've watched someone use it.

Don't use equipment unless the instructor is in the shop. Before you use any equipment, whether during class or after, you must have:

• A safety certificate

• Someone with you

• The instructors permission

• A license

There are several reasons its important to use the right tool and the right sized tool for the job. The most important reason is:

• Neatness

• Precision

• Efficiency

• Safety

When you carry a tool with a sharp edge, carry it so no one gets hurt if you trip or bump into someone. You should carry it with the pointed edge:

• Covered

• In your pocket

• Pointed down

• Pointed to the ceiling

When you hand someone a tool, lay it down so they can pick it up by the handle or hold it so they can:

• Take it by the handle

• Catch it if it falls

• Take the pointed edge first

• Take it with both hands
