mean

• Numerical data values that can be COUNTED
• a graph that stacks the frequencies of two different groups for a given category on top of one another so that you can compare the parts to the whole

Median

• circle graph

Mode

• The value that occurs most frequently in a given data set.

range

• an entire set of data of items from which data are collected.
• the way in which the data is spread out on a graph

Quartiles

• values that lie a large distance from the other data; outliers usually accompany gaps in data.
• Values that divide a data set into four equal parts
• method of data collection where people are asked one or more questions.

Interquartile Range (IQR)

• Numerical data values that can be MEASURED
• minimum, Q1, median, Q3, maximum
• displays the ratio or percent of occurences within a category to the total of the category.
• A measure of variability, defined to be the difference between the third and first quartiles. Q3 - Q1

box and whisker plot

Outlier

• a data display that shows discrete data on a number line with dots, Xs, or other symbols.
• often called pie chart, a data display that uses pieces of a circle to show parts of a whole
• values that lie a large distance from the other data; outliers usually accompany gaps in data.
• on a graph, values that contain more data points than the values on either side of them
