The main responsibility of the forklift owners is to

• ensure that forklift operators are trained.

• ensure that all the policies and procedures are followed to the dot.

• ensure that all routes for pedestrians and vehicles are demarcate.

• ensure that forklift operations are carried out safely and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

What do we do to damaged and defective forklifts?

• Discard or dispose.

• Continue to use until it cannot move anymore.

• Tag and remove the forlift to prevent accidental usage.

• It is ok to use it for lighter loads.

• the maximum load shown on the plates, clearly and permanently.

Forklift operators are to check that the trailer or vehicle is in this condition before driving into them.

• Engine is turned off and brakes applied.
• Engine is turned off.
• Brakes applied and wheels chocked.
• Engine is turned off, brakes applied and wheel choked.

Loads to be transported in lifts / elevators must be placed

• at the side of the lift.
• in a way that it is fully occupied.
• as advised by the manufacturer of the lift/ elevator.
• with the forklift in the lift/ elevator

All accidents, near misses, equipment failure or damage

• are to be reported and recorded.
• are to be reported only if there is injury.
• are to be reported only if the injured gets an MC of more than 7 days.
• are to be reported only if the injured is hospitalised.
