What two departing gifts does King Aeolus give Odysseus?

• a box that he isn't to open until he gets home and a bag of silver and gold coins to bribe Hades with.

• a good, strong wind to sail them home and a bag of bad, stormy winds

• a magic wand to help him combat the monsters and a map to gethim home

• a promise of peaceful weather and purse full of magic curses

Odysseus and his men are in sight of their home, Ithaca, when what happens to send them far back?

• Polyphemus puts a curse on them and his father, Poseidon, causes a tidal waveto send them back to King Aelous.

• They just drift away and go the wrong direction.

• The Laestrygones attack them and drive thenm all the way back to King Alcinoius' island.

• While Odysseus is sleeping, his men open a gift bag from King Aelous and are blown back to his island by stormy winds.

Circe turns the men into--

How do all but one of Odysseus' ships get destroyed?

• Polyphemus, the cyclops, throws mountain tops at them and sink them all.

• The Laestrygones (giant cannibals) sink them by throwing boulders at them.

One of the leaders on the ship, Eurolochus, reports ro Odysseus what the witch Circe has done to his men and begs him to leave Circe's island at once. What does Odysseus do?

• He listens and they all leave, mourning the loss of their friends, but thankful to get away.

• Of course, Odysseus doesn't listen; he goes back to try to rescue his crew.

• He gives up. He laments his loss and just stays with Circe for 3 years.

• He goes back, fights Circe and gets his men back, stealing the tame lions too.
