Protocols

Connection-Oriented. Requires a stable connection between client and the server before a message is sent. Guaranteed data delivery.

Connectionless-Oriented. Sends information without verifying someone is on the other end to recieve it. No guarantee of delivery.

Transfers files between Clients/Servers

A TCP protocol that replaced Telnet. It is able to encrypt login and data sent over a connection

Allow users to log in remotely to UNIX/Linux host. Sends usernames and passwords as clear text and is a potential security risk.

This TCP protocol is used for sending e-mail messages between mail servers.

Maps computer names to IP addresses.

Assigns IP Addresses automatically to clients on a network.

Transfers files between clients and servers without requiring a login. Commonly used to send files to routers or workstations that don't have a disk drive.

Used by clients using a web browser to request information from web servers ie explorer, firefox, chrome.
