Tell us about yourself?

• Mbali – I am Mbali Shongwe, I matriculated from High school in 2019 and studied Electrical Engineering for three years at Wits technical school and graduated in 2022. Have not been able to successfully find employment in my field of study but I have been volunteering at the local pharmacy as an admin assistant to sharpen my customer service and administration skills.

  I am passionate about uplifting the youth in my community, so I often tutor the children with math and science homework.

  In my spare time I read, and I am also a gym fanatic.

• Karen – I am Karen Buys, I was born in Limpopo Province in 1992. I went to primary school in Limpopo and then my family moved to Johannesburg, so I did my high schooling here. I am the eldest of 5 siblings. After high school I studied Electrical engineering, but I am unable to find work in that field.

  I have been at home since I am unable to find work.

What do you know about Harambee?

• Karen– Harambee seeks to address the South African Youth Unemployment crisis by helping companies hire young, first-time job seekers. Harambee has developed a mobile-based network that collects job-seekers details, assesses candidates, offers training, and matches them to employers looking for their skillsets.

• Mbali– I know that Harambee finds work for unemployed youth. The youth are people between the ages of 18 and 35 years.

What qualities make a good Contact Centre Guide?

• Mbali – A good Contact Centre guide must be an effective communicator, and should also be able to show empathy. The person must be able to handle pressure, have a positive attitude and be resilient.

  An agent deals with a variety of personalities and some interactions may not be so positive, so the agent must be able to stay calm when customers are angry or frustrated.

• Karen – A good Contact Centre guide must be a good listener and must be able to speak well. The person must be passionate about people.

Why are you the best person for this position?

• Karen – As I have mentioned before, I am passionate about uplifting the youth in my community. I understand how frustrating it can be when you are unable to find employment, so I am able to empathize with the unemployed youth.

  I am calm, resilient, and reliable, and I am also an excellent communicator.

• Mbali– I am passionate about being a Contact Centre agent, I am also a good communicator and I am able to listen and stay calm.
