Professional Liability Insurance has 2 type of policies:

• Claims-made policy: Provides protection when the claim for nursing or negligence is made while the policy is in force

• Occurrence-basis policy: Protects against claims made about events that occurred during the policy/extended coverage period

• Requires that institutions maintain written policies and procedures regarding advance directives
