Bland Science Classroom Expectations

What is the expected noise level as you enter the classroom?

• There is not an expectation for noise level as you enter the classroom.

• Talking is acceptable as long as you are speaking in an "inside" voice.

• Your mouth is to remain silent as you enter and immediately take your assigned seat.

What is the consequence should you not follow classroom expectations?

• There is no consequences for not respecting the classroom expectations.

• A lunch detention will be assigned after two strikes.

• A major referral (office) will be assigned after two strikes.

You need to desperately use the restroom. What is the procedure for the following: asking to use the restroom, signing out, and returning to the classroom?

• Hold up one finger and wait for Mrs. Bland's response without calling out. Use "Smartpass" to sign out and show your screen to Mrs. Bland. Grab the pass and quietly exit through the exit door. Go straight to the restroom and return to the classroom immediately when finished. (Not stopping to talk to friends and/or teachers in other classes.) Knock on our classroom door and wait for someone to open the door. Quietly enter the classroom, take you seat, and stop your "Smartpass."

• There's no procedure as students can leave the class without permission.

• Raise your hand showing any number of fingers. If Mrs. Bland is not fast enough to respond, shout-out that you need the restroom, yelling over people. Loudly leave the classroom and stop at each teacher's door to look for friends. Spend 10 minutes out of the room and loudly enter the room, yelling at your classmates.

How many tardies can you receive before it's a lunch detention?

• 3 although an office referral may be earned before the third detention based off the severity of the behavior.

What supplies are you expected to have on a daily basis for science class?

• Pencil

• Cell phone

What are the procedures for entering your 7th grade science class?

• Your mouth is silent as you immediately take your assigned seat. You take out your science journal and quietly complete Bellwork. Remain quiet and await further instructions.

• Arrive tardy to class and call-out that it's not your fault. You see that the class is completing Bellwork although you talk to all your friends as you make your way to your seat. Then you loudly shout "What are we doing." You get up and wonder the classroom asking everyone for a pencil.

Why is it necessary to enter our science classroom on time, in a quiet manner, with your daily supplies?

• Entering the classroom in the calm manner described in the question is essential to showing that you are prepared for learning and prepared to create an environment where everyone in the classroom can learn. You are a smart person and you know that your education is the one thing nobody can ever take away from you. You are in control of your learning. Guard it as though your life depends on it!

• It is not necessary to enter the science classroom quietly despite research showing otherwise.

• There are no procedures on how to enter the classroom.

• The procedures on how to enter the classroom are on the front board next to the Bellwork prompt.

Why is it important to be in your science class on time?

• Bellwork explanations, class announcements, and attendance are completed the first several minutes of class. Distractions from late students could cause students to get off-focus.

• I'm failing science class therefore why should I bother making it to class on time.

• It is not important to be in class on time.
