What is the main means of transportation in Vietnam?

Bicycles

Cars

Buses

Motorbikes

Answer explanation

Media Image

Traffic accidents are a common subject when discussing transportation in Vietnam. The fact that Vietnam is listed as one of the top 10 nations with the most traffic accidents worldwide is not by chance. According to estimates from the Vietnam National Traffic Safety Committee, there were up to 17,000 injuries and 8,000 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in Vietnam in 2017. These numbers are terrible and staggering for a number of reasons, including the road networks, different traffic types, and drivers' alertness. For instance, some highways include instructions that are not very clear or that are placed in places where they are not visible. Additionally, there are only a few flyover bridges on a few roads, and there is no metro system, which causes the circulation of transportation to be slow and congested with a lot of automobiles, etc.

Vietnam is the world's second largest exporter of which commodity?

Rice

Tea

Cashew nuts

Coffee

Answer explanation

Media Image

Coffee was introduced to Vietnam in the 1800’s, and throughout the French Colonial period, Arabica was actually grown on many French-owned plantations. Nonetheless, due to a variety of political and economic factors (including a massive civil war and subsequent Communist prohibitions on private land ownership), Vietnam was slow to achieve any real relevance as a coffee producing nation. As of 1990, Vietnam was responsible for a tiny 1% of world coffee trade. Decades later Vietnam Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world, after Brazil, and the world's top coffee exporter. In 2022/23, Vietnam produced 29.75 million bags of coffee.

Origin of Vietnamese Surnames

The Vietnamese began using last names in about 111 B.C. when China conquered Vietnam. The most popular last name in Vietnam is Nguyen, which was the name of the ruling dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The people of Vietnam weren't all that attached to last names, and would frequently change them to that of the ruling family. About 40 percent of Vietnam's population is named Nguyen.

Around 40% have this name and it is also seen around the world in other countries such as Australia and France. This is due to other people like the French colonizing Vietnam in the 19th century. The Nguyen Dynasty was feared by many and the people who didn't flee to China changed their name to Nguyen to avoid retribution or prosecution.

The terraces in the mountains pictured here are stunning. Long ago the indigenous people set out to cultivate rice in the harsh mountainous areas. They plowed and created flat plots of land on the mountain slopes. In Sapa and other provinces of Northwestern Vietnam, terraced fields have existed for hundreds of years.

Tam Dao

Fansipan

Ba Na Hills

Answer explanation

Fansipan Mountain is located in Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range, about 9 kilometers southwest of Sapa Town in Lao Cai Province, Northwestern Vietnam. Fansipan height, reaching an elevation of 3,143 meters above sea level, proudly stands as the highest mountain in Vietnam and Indochina.

The temperature at the summit can drop to freezing point, with an average temperature of 4-6 degrees Celsius in winter, and 15-20 degrees Celsius in summer. The mountain is also known for its diverse ecosystem and rich biodiversity, with many rare species of flora and fauna found only in this region.
