The mission variable is the influence of manmade infrastructure, institutions, and activities of the leaders, populations, and organizations within an AO, upon the conduct of military operations.

This mission variable is the task, together with the purpose, that clearly indicates the action to be taken and the reason (therefore the who, what, when, where, and why of the operation). it is always the first variable commanders consider during decision making.

This mission variable is the amount of time the commander has to plan, prepare, and execute the assigned task or operation (including assemble, deploy, and maneuver units in relationship to the enemy and conditions).
