Steps of Baptism

Step 1: Preparation for Baptism

• Parents & godparents fast & pray

• Receive Holy Qurbana & Confession

Step 2: Dedication

• Infant is dedicated to God as a gift

• Follows Jewish tradition

Step 3: Christening (Naming Ceremony)

• Baptized person is given a Christian name

• Usually after a saint

Step 4: Exorcism

Step 5: Proclamation of Faith

• The Nicene Creed is recited

• Godparent/adult publicly declares faith in Christ

Step 6: Act of ‘Sealing’

Step 7: Washing with Consecrated Water

• Water is poured & blessed in the baptismal font

• Symbolizes the River Jordan

Step 8: Anointing with Holy Mooron

• Baptized is sealed with the Holy Spirit

• Infants are fully anointed

Step 9: Holy Qurbana

Step 10: Benediction & Dismissal

• Final blessings given

• Godparents instructed on their duties
