Sir Arthur C. Clarke, the famous science fiction author, spent the majority of his later life in Sri Lanka. He moved there in 1956, after falling in love with the country during a visit. Clarke settled in Colombo, where he lived for the rest of his life. His passion for the country and its people is reflected in his work, and he became a prominent figure in Sri Lankan society. Clarke even made Sri Lanka the setting for some of his stories, including The Fountains of Paradise, which features a space elevator concept based in the country. He passed away in 2008 in Colombo
