Sacrum

• S1-S5 (fused to form one bone)

• L1-L5 (individual vertebrae)

• C1-C7 (cervical vertebrae)

• T1-T12 (thoracic vertebrae)

The Skull (aka Cranium)

• The bony structure that forms the head, protecting the brain.

• A type of muscle that supports head movement.

• A fluid-filled cavity that houses the brain.

• A protective layer of skin covering the head.

Lumbar Vertebrae

• L1-L5 (5 vertebrae)

• T1-T12 (12 vertebrae)

• C1-C7 (7 vertebrae)

• S1-S5 (5 vertebrae)

Cervical Vertebrae

• C1-C5 (5 vertebrae)

• C1-C7 (7 vertebrae)

• C1-C12 (12 vertebrae)

• C1-C3 (3 vertebrae)

Rib Cage

• 10 ribs on each side of the body

• 12 ribs on each side of the body

• 14 ribs on each side of the body

• 8 ribs on each side of the body

Maxilla (Upper Jaw)

• The bone that forms the upper jaw and supports the upper teeth.

• The bone that forms the lower jaw and supports the lower teeth.

• A bone in the skull that protects the brain.

• A bone that connects the jaw to the skull.

Sternum

• A single bone with three sections

• A pair of bones in the ribcage

• A bone located in the skull

• A long bone in the arm

Axial Skeleton

• The axial skeleton includes the skull, rib cage, and vertebral column.

• The axial skeleton includes the skull, ossicles of the inner ear, hyoid bone, rib cage, and vertebral column.

• The axial skeleton includes the limbs and pelvic girdle.

• The axial skeleton includes only the skull and rib cage.

Temporal (Side)

• The bones located at the sides of the skull. There are two temporal bones.

• The bones located at the front of the skull.

• The bones located at the base of the skull.

• The bones located at the back of the skull.

True Ribs

• 5 true ribs connect independently to the sternum via cartilage

• 7 true ribs connect independently to the sternum via cartilage

• 10 true ribs connect independently to the sternum via cartilage

• 7 true ribs connect to the sternum via muscle
