Nat Turner's Rebellion was a significant event in American history, led by Nat Turner, an enslaved African-American who believed he was chosen by God to lead his people out of bondage. Born in 1800, Turner was educated in reading, writing, and Christianity, and became a prominent preacher. In 1831, he led a violent insurrection in Virginia, resulting in the deaths of 55 to 65 white people. The rebellion was suppressed, and Turner was captured and executed. The event led to stricter laws against educating enslaved and free blacks and heightened tensions between slaveholders and abolitionists, contributing to the onset of the Civil War.
