Jefferson Davis was born in 1808 in Kentucky and later moved to Mississippi. He attended Transylvania University and West Point, serving in the military before marrying Sarah Knox Taylor. After her death, he became a successful farmer and politician, advocating for state rights. Davis served in the US House and Senate and as Secretary of War. In 1861, he became the Confederate president during the Civil War. Despite initial success, the Confederacy was defeated, and Davis was imprisoned. After his release, he wrote about the war and died in 1889.
