The video explores the historical debate on spontaneous generation. Francesco Redi's 1668 experiment showed that maggots on meat came from flies, not spontaneous generation. Despite this, John Needham in the 18th century argued for spontaneous generation using sealed flasks. Lazzaro Spallanzani later critiqued Needham by boiling infusions in sealed flasks, showing no microbial growth. Finally, in 1862, Louis Pasteur conclusively disproved spontaneous generation with his swan-neck flask experiment, demonstrating that microorganisms come from the air, not spontaneously from non-living matter.
