Giraffes are often seen standing because they rarely sit or lie down. Their diet consists of leaves from tall trees, which requires them to stand most of the day. Even newborn giraffes can stand and walk within an hour of birth. Interestingly, giraffes also stand while giving birth and sleeping. They sleep for only about 30 minutes a day, usually in short naps.
