The video discusses the four constitutions proposed for Kansas before it joined the Union. The Lecompton Constitution, drafted by pro-slavery advocates, was rejected twice. The Topeka Constitution, anti-slavery but still discriminatory, was also not enacted. The Leavenworth Constitution was the most liberal, granting voting rights to all men, but it too was not adopted. Finally, the Wyandotte Constitution led to Kansas joining the Union as a free state in 1859, rejecting slavery but denying voting rights to blacks and Native Americans.
