In 632, Muhammad conquered much of the Arabian Peninsula but died that year. His friend Abu Bakr succeeded him as the first caliph, continuing to expand Islamic rule. Abu Bakr faced opposition but managed to consolidate power through military and diplomatic means. He launched successful campaigns in Iraq and Syria, leading to significant conquests. The Battle of Ajnadayn marked a decisive victory against the Byzantine Empire. Abu Bakr died shortly after, and Umar succeeded him as caliph.
